William Brown received word of the death of his brother, Ernest Brown, who died suddenly Saturday at his home in Ft. Scott, Kansas. Mr. Brown is well known in Kingman and visited his brother here about two months ago. – thanks to S&E

Ernest Alfred Brown, 65, former Baptist clergyman and mailing clerk at the Ft. Scott, Kansas, post office, died suddenly following a heart attack.
  His death occurred at his home, 1324 So. Main, after he had attended church, where he had read the Sunday School scripture lesson. He complained of illness upon his arrival home. A physician was called, but death followed immediately.
  Mr. Brown was born in Waynetown, Ind., July 28, 1882, one of 12 children of Thomas and Etta Brown. He grew to manhood in Indiana and was graduated from Marion, Ind. High School.
  After attending Bible Institute in Chicago he entered the Louisville, Ky., Theological Seminary where he took his ministerial training. Ordained a Baptist minister, his first pastorate was in Friendly Grove, Ind. After two years there he went to Colby, Kansas, and a year later became pastor of the Mt. Orem Baptist Church near Redfield.
  Later he was also assigned to the Uniontown Baptist Church and conducted services in both churches until 1915 when he entered the postal service at Ft. Scott as a mailing clerk, a position he held until three years ago.
  Up until 1937, when his health began to fail, he continued to carry on the pastorates of the Mt. Orem and Uniontown Churches. He had been on the official board of the Baptist Church for many years and served as chairman the last three years.
  The deceased was an ardent outdoor sportsman and greatly enjoyed hunting and fishing.
   Mr. and Mrs. Brown in October returned from Indiana where they visited old friends.
  Mr. Brown had resided in Fort Scott for the last 33 years and lived at his present address for the last 14 years.
  Survivors include the widow, the former Mary Shrigley of Rockville, Ind., whom he married June 17, 1908 and the following children: Mrs. Ruth Johnston of Hayward, Calif., Paul Brown of Parsons, Kansas, Rex Brown and Mrs. Frances Franklin, both of Oakland, Calif., and Mrs. Grace Davee of Wichita, Kansas; four brothers and three sisters, William A. of Kingman, John E. of Terre Haute, Leo T. of Indianapolis, Lloyd O. of Fortville, Mrs. Ada Christie of Montezuma, Dora Hunt of Tangier, Sally Starkey of Stone Bluff. Four sisters are deceased. Seven grandchildren also survive.    Funeral services were held in the auditorium of the First Baptist Church and interment was in Evergreen Cemetery at Fort Scott. – thanks to S&E
