Gertrude May Brown, 68, Rt. 3, Veedersburg, died 7:30 a.m. Thursday at Home Hospital, Lafayette. She had been ill for several months and hospitalized one week.

  She was born at Indianola, Ill., on Jan. 5, 1905, the daughter of Delbert and Leona Thompson Hill. A former resident of the Danville, Ill. area, she had resided on a farm south of Newtown since 1938. She was married April 3, 1926, at Paris, Ill., to John Wesley Brown who preceded her in death in 1956. She was head salad chef at Cary Hall at Purdue University for 11 years. Her husband was a retired railroad employee and a farmer prior to his death.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Newtown. Surviving is a daughter, Mrs. Herschel (Marjory) Mapes, Rt. 1, Wingate; one son, Jack Brown, Boise, Idaho; two sisters, Mrs. Marion Osborne, New Haven, Ind.; Mrs. Ruth Price, Lake Worth, Fla.; seven grandchildren. Visitation was at Maus Funeral Home in Attica where the Rev. Walter Williams officiated. Burial was at Waynetown Masonic Cemetery. ā€“ thanks so much to ā€œSā€

Newtown - Mrs. Gertrude May Brown, 68, Rt 3, Veedersburg who was employed for 11 years as the head salad maker in Carey Hall at Purdue University died Thursday morning in Home Hospital at Lafayette. She had been hospitalized for one week. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church at Newtown. A former resident of the Danville, Ill area, she had resided south of Newtown since 1938.

Born Jan 5, 1905 at Indianaola, Ill, she was a daughter of Delbert and Leona Thompson Hill.  She was married April 3, 1926 at Paris Ill to John Wesley Brown.  He died in 1956.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Herschel Mapes of Wingate; a son, Jack Brown of Boise, Idaho; two sisters, Mrs. Marion Osborn of New Haven, Ind and Mrs. Ruth Price of Lake Worth Fla and 7 grandchildren.

Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday in the Dale Maus Funeral Home at Attica with Rev. Walter Williams officiating. Burial will be in Waynetown Masonic Cemetery.  Friends may call at the funeral home after 6 p.m. Sunday - kbz
