Isaac Brown, aged 75 years 5 months and 24 days died at his home in Altoona last Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from an attack of pneumonia, of which he had been ill for more than a week, taking sick on his golden wedding day. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. CE Creager. Interment was in Altoona Cemetery. The deceased leaves a wife and three grown sons, other relatives and a host of friends to mourn his loss. He was born in New Jersey June 26th, 1835. With his parents he moved from NJ to Indiana when 8 years of age, locating in Fountain County. On Dec 13, 1860, he was married to Judith Insley. To this union were born four sons, three of whom are living: Thomas F; Benjamin C; and Charles E all of this city. In 1862 the deceased and wife moved to Ash Grove, Illinois where he was converted and united with the ME Church.  They resided in Ash Grove 18 years, coming to Kansas in 1880, locating near Altoona where they lived 10 years, since which they have been residents of this city. Until moving to Altoona Mr. Brown followed the pursuit of farming and after coming to town engaged in several enterprises until his advanced age and failing health made it necessary for him to retire from active work. By the death of Isaac Brown Altoona loses one of its best citizens. He was of a kind disposition, industrious, honorable and everybody was his friend. He was a devoted husband, a kind and indulgent father and invariably good neighbor.  But he is gone!  Another name is stricken from the ever lessening roll of our old settlers, and a solitary woman in the sunset of life and a lonely home are left to attest how sadly they will miss him.  It must be so; these tender human ties cannot be severed without a pang. Yet in such a death there is really no cause for grief.  His life work was done and well done. He had passed his golden wedding day and after a long and useful life he lay down to rest, thus a good and righteous man has been taken from our midst.
