Mellott - John W. Brown, 74, farmer of near Mellott died early Wednesday morning at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Lafayette, following an illness of three months.  Mr. Brown was born April 3, 1881 in Hartsville, Ind son of Martin L. and Ida M. Castetter Brown.  He was married April 3, 1926 to Gertrude Curtiss.  Mr. Brown, retired lived on his farm north of Mellott where he had resided for a number of years.  Survivors include the widow; a daughter, Mrs. Herschell Mapes of Mellott; a son, Capt. Jack Brown of the US Air Force; six sisters, Mrs. Alta Barnes of Columbus, Mrs. Jennie Darnell of Clear Water, Fla; Mrs. Alice Hobson of Wingate; Mrs. Ella Shaw of Muncie and Mrs. Myra Larrsbelle and Mrs. Edna Davis, both of West Lafayette; three brothers, Raymond Brown and Guy Brown both of Hartsville and Thomas Brown of Chadron, Neb and four grandsons.  Services will be held in the Methodist Church in Newton Friday at 2 p.m. with Rev. Hubert Neth as the officiating minister. Burial will be made in the Masonic Cemetery at Waynetown. Friends may call at the residence. - kbz
