John Walter Brutus, 82, of the Independence community on Attica Route 3, died at 6:15 p. m. Monday (March 24, 1969) at the Home Hospital in Lafayette. He had been ill since January and a patient there since Feb. 28. Born Dec. 13, 1886, north of Independence in Warren County, he was a life resident of Warren County. He had resided on the farm where he was born for the past 33 years. He was married Sept. 16, 1906, at Attica to Clara Belle McFerren, who survives. Mr. Brutus attended Valparaiso University and was a retired farmer. He was a member of the Green Hill Masonic Lodge and a charter member of the Warren County Farm Bureau. Other survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Nellie Weigle, and Mrs. Mae Pearson, both of Attica Route 3, and Mrs. Lelia Preston of Lafayette; a brother, Harry of Independence; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Services Thursday at the DeSutter Funeral Home. The Rev. Eldon Brown officiating. Burial in Riverside Cemetery. – jlr
