Charles Burk, 86, retired farmer died at his home in Kingman at 3 p.m.  Monday (1 April 1946) following a two-week illness with pneumonia.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, the Rev. Leslie Smith of the United Brethren Church officiating. Burial was in Harveysburg Cemetery with Spencer Funeral Home in Charge.

Born in Kentucky March 2, 1860, he was the son of the late Nathan and Elizabeth Burk, his sole immediate survivors is his wife, Sarah Hollingsworth Burk.   --- kbz

Charles W. Burk was born in Kentucky March 2, 1860 the son of Nathan and Elizabeth Burk.  He moved to Illinois when a small boy and later came to Indiana. He was married at Dana, Ind on April 26, 1888 to Miss Sarah Hollingsworth the sole survivors. He died April 1, 1946 at his home in Kingman after several years of failing health at the age of 86 years and 29 days. His sisters and brothers preceded him in death. He leaves many close friends and neighbors of whom he thought so much.  Funeral services were held at the home Wednesday afternoon with the Rev. Leslie Smith officiating. Music was furnished by Scott Ratcliff.  Pall bearers were Leslie Gillum; Elmer Alward; WA Hadley; James Hepler; Carroll Longfellow and Ben Hale.  Flower bears were Miss Sarah Hollingsworth; Mrs. Hazel McBride; Mrs. Carroll Longfellow; Mrs. Vera Nale and Mrs. Hattie Jaggers.  Interment was made in Harveysburg cemetery with the Spencer Funeral Home in charge.  Attending the funeral from out of town were Mr. and Mrs. Ben Nale and Mrs. Alice Hollingsworth and daughter of Georgetown, Ill; Mr. and Mrs. Kendall McBride of St. Bernice; Mr. and Mrs. Carroll Longfellow and Mr. and Mrs. William Longfellow of Clinton;; Mrs. Nellie Lanham of Dana; Mr. and Mrs. George Jaggers of Jamaica, Ill; Mr. and Mrs. George Hardy of Danville, Ill; Mrs. Sallie Horsley and daughter of Covington; Harry Glascock and Mrs. Wayne Cory of Veedersburg.
