NEWPORT, Ind. (CNS) - George D. Burroughs Sr., 78, of 425 E. Extension, died at 5:30 a.m. Friday (Oct. 15, 1976) at the Vermillion County Hospital in Clinton. He had been ill one week. A life resident of Vermillion County, Mr. Burroughs was a retired farmer. He was a member of the Vermillion County Farm Bureau and Vermillion County Conservation Club. His hobbies were gardening, coon hunting and telling stories. Born April 30, 1898, in Vermillion Co., he was a son of Frank and Philena Brown Burroughs. He married Audra Pearman on Oct. 2, 1915. Survivors include his wife; a son, Norman "Ick" Burroughs of Newport; two daughters, Mrs. Bill (Ena) Baysinger and Mrs. Gloria Wilcoxson, both of Newport; a brother, Charles of Georgetown, Ill., Route 1; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, two brothers and a sister. Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Malcolm DeVerter Funeral Home in Cayuga, with the Rev. Ruby Harrison officiating. Burial will be in Thomas Cemetery in Newport. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.  --waw
