Funeral services for James Byerly, age 91, of Covington Rt. 1, who died Thursday, July 26, at his home, where he had been ill one day, were held Sunday, July 29, at 2 p. m. at the Hegg Funeral Home. The Rev. Glenn Ray officiated. Burial was in the Mt. Hope Cemetery here. Pallbearers were Russell Bowers, Carl Bowers, Gardner Bowers, Joe Plunkett, Harold McClure and Glen Brandenburg. Mr. Byerly was born June 25, 1871, in Thomasville, N. C., a son of Andrew and Elizabeth Horn Byerly. He was married in 1898 to Katherine Bowers. She preceded him in death on July 9, 1953. Mr. Byerly came to this area from North Carolina in 1894. He had farmed in the Covington area for 20 years and formerly in Benton County. Survivors include three sons, George and Everett, both of Hoopeston, Ill., and Kenneth of Danville, Ill.; two daughters, Mrs. Margaret Fleenor of Hoopeston, Ill.; and Mrs. Mary Plunkett of Kingman; a brother, Bert of Highpoint, N. C.; 18 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. He also was preceded in death by a daughter and three brothers.    --typed by Walt W
