Source: The obituary is from a collection by Fauniel Hershberger, saved the 1950's, 60's and 70's. She was a life long resident of Fountain County Indiana.  The collection is now housed at Crawfordsville District Public Library.

8-24-1964 VEEDERSBURG -- Alva Byers, 79, Veedersburg, died at 5 a. m. Monday at the Rudisill Nursing Home in Covington where he had been a patient for 10 days. Mr. Byers had undergone surgery at Lakeview Hospital at Danville, Ill., prior to entering the nursing home. Mr. Byers had been a resident here for the past 30 years after moving to this city from Wingate. Before his retirement, he had been a section foreman on the Nickleplate Railroad for 40 years. Mr. Byers was born Aug. 12, 1885, at Hoopeston, Ill. On Feb. 6, 1906, he married the former Jennie Kearney in Wingate. She preceded him in death. Survivors include three sons, John and David of Veedersburg and Clarence of Lafayette; a daughter, Mrs. Alta Clift of Veedersburg; 17 grandchildren, and 24 great-grandchildren. Other survivors are five brothers, Clarence, Elword, Glenn and Emmett, all of Lafayette, and Otto of Clarks Hill. The Parham Funeral Home in Veedersburg is in charge of funeral arrangements.  --typed by Walt W

Before his retierment he had been a secton foreman for the NIckleplate RR for 40 years. Mr. Byers was born Aug 12, 1885 at Hoopeston, Ill . On Feb 4 1906 he married the former Jennie Kearney in Wingate. She prec him in death. Survivors include 3 sons, John and David of Veedersburg and Clarence of Lafayette; a daughter, Mrs. Alta CLift of Veedersburg; 17 grandch, 24 greats. Other survivors are 5 brothers, Clarence, Elword (sic), Glenn & Emmett all of Lafqayette and Otto of Clarks HIll. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wed at the First EUB CHurch here. Rev. Harold Merrical will officiate. Burial will be at Green Lawn Cemetery at Wingate. There will be visiting at the Parham Funeral Home Tuesday afternoon and evening.
