Wingate - Sam J. Campbell, age 77, of Wingate, died at 6:45 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, at the Bowles Nursing Home in Crawfordsville. He had been a patient there two years. He had been seriously ill three weeks after fracturing his hip in a fall. Born June 27, 1885, in Springfield, Ill., he was the son of John and Mary Hubler Campbell. He was married Feb. 3, 1909, at Covington to Lula E. Timmons, who survives. Mr. Campbell had farmed in Fountain and Montgomery counties and had been a carpenter. He had retired and moved to Wingate eight years ago. He was a member of the Christian Church at Stone Bluff. Survivors include his wife; a son, J. D. Campbell of New Richmond; a daughter, Mrs. Una Shouse of Albion; a sister, Mrs. Favor Walton of Sterling, four grandchildren and a great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by a son and a daughter. Several cousins reside in the Covington community. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Servies Funeral Home in Waynetown. The Rev. Keith Ogier officiated. Burial was in Osborn Prairie Cemetery.
