Gessie - Mabel Carithers, 89, of Danville, Ill., a former resident of Gessie and Rileysburg and a well-known local artist, died Monday in Danville Care South Nursing Home at Danville. She was a member of Danville United Church of Christ and a former member of the Danville Art League. She was born near Rileysburg on Aug. 1, 1887, a daughter of August and Ellen Prather Knoth. She married Oscar Carithers on March 31, 1904. He died Aug. 30, 1958. Surviving are a son, Roland, of Danville; a grandson, Howard of Danville; and two great-grandchildren. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home at Covington with burial in Atherton Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday.
