CARPENTER, Alice Reed

Mrs. Alice Carpenter, age about 80 years passed away at 10 a.m. Monday June 17 at the home of her son< Reed Carpenter at Hammond, Ind after an illness of several years. She was born at Sterling, near Veedersburg, the son of “Duck” and Selena Glascock Reed. About 55 years ago she married Charles Carpenter of near Mellott.  They resided on a farm about three miles southwest of Mellott until June 1937 when their home was destroyed by the cyclone which struck Mellott at that time. They then went to Hillsboro to live where Mr. Carpetner died in 1939. About four years ago she went to Hammond to live with their son. Surviving are one son, Reed of Hammond, Ind and four grandchildren. One daughter, Beulah, age 6, preceded her in death. Crumley and son undertakers of Covington brought the body to their funeral home in Covington Tuesday morning. Funeral services probably will be held Wednesday afaternoon at the Congregational Christian Church in Mellott of which she was a member. - kbz
