Kingman, Ind- Francis Hardy Cates, 89 of Kingman Rt 1, died at 9:40 a.m. Tuesday Oct 28, 1969 at West Brook Nursing Home in Crawfordsville where he had been a patient 6 months. He had been seriously ill the past two weeks. Mr. Cates was born April 15, 1880, in Fulton Twp, Fountain County, a son of Alfred and Sarah Hollowell. He married Opha Allen Sept 7, 1901 who survives and is a patient in the West Brook home. Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Doug (Gladys) Six of Covington Rt 1 and Mrs. Fred (Juanita) Brooks of Kingman Rt 1; one son, Ernest of Covington Rt 1; one brother, Clayton of Terre Haute; four grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sons and one sister. Mr. Cates was a resident of Kingman community most of his life, except for 20 years in Danville. A carpenter and cabinet-maker, he was a member of the Yeddo Baptist Church. Services will be at 2 p.m. EDT,Thursday at Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home in Covington. Burial will bein Kingman Fratern Cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday afternoon and evening at the funeral home.

Covington - Funeral services for Francis Hardy Cates, age 89, of Rt 1, Kingman who died at 9:40 a.m. Tuesday, Oct 28 (1969) were held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home here. The Rev. Joseph Hayes and Eston Brooks officiated and burial was in Kingman Fraternal Cemetery. Mr. Cates died at the Westbrooks Nursing Home in Crawfordsville where he had been a patient six months. He had been seriously ill for the past two weeks. He was born April 15, 1880 in Fulton Twp, Fountain County, the son of Alfred & Sarah Hollowell Cate. He was married Sept 7, 1901 to Opha Allen, who survives at the Westbrook Nursing Home. Mr. Cates was a resident of Cates most of his life except from 1912-1934 when he lived at Danville, Ill. He was a carpenter and cabinet maker and was a member of Yeddo Baptist Church.
