MRS. SCHUYLER GROVES CATES (Marie Shumaker)

Source: Iva Lewis Obituary Scrapbook

Mrs. Schuyler Cates died at her home near Cates Saturday about 1 o’clock after a long illness. She was afflicted with the dread disease of consumption and for more than a year she has battled faithfully in the hope of regaining her health, but it seemed that the hands of angels were beckoning her to come and all efforts to spare her life seemed in vein. Some time ago she was removed to the state tuberculosis sanitarium near Rockville, but no help came. Deceased was a daughter of Mrs. Groves and was about twenty-five years of age. She leaves besides a devoted husband, three small children, two girls and one boy, and a host of other relatives and friends to mourn her departure. Funeral services were conducted by Mrs. Sarah Lindley at 10 o’clock Monday forenoon after-which the remains were taken the cemetery near Snoddy’s Mill and laid to rest beside that of her father. – jlr
