MILLARD CATES

Covington- Millard Cates, 69, RFD 1, was found hanging in a machine shed at his home Friday afternoon by his brother, Prior (Cap) Cates and his wife when they returned from a trip to Cayuga. The deceased had been in ill health for some time and the Prior Cates had been spending their nights with him for the past 3 or 4 weeks. Born Nov 3, 1883 in Fultown Township he was the son of David and Mary I. Ferguson Cates. He married Dessa C.V. Summer on Nov 18, 1906. She preceded him in death March 21, 1949. Surviving are a son, Keith, RFD 2, Kingman; two brothers, Prior (Cap) of Cayuga and William of Kingman; a sister, Mrs. Emma Barker, Kingman, RFD 2 and two grandchildren, (Carolyn and Dale Cates) of Kingman. Friends may call at the farm residence from Saturday evening until Monday at 1:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held Monday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from the Cates EUB Church, Rev. H.A. Lashbrook of Elwood will officiate. Burial in Mt. Hope Cemetery. -- kbz
