Cayuga - Prior (Cap) Cates, a former superintendent of the Fountain County Home from 1934 to 1942, died Sunday at 3:05 p.m. at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Danville, Ill. Born in Fountain County Nov. 7, 1875, he was the son of David and Mary Isabel Ferguson Cates. He was married to Lillie J. Spinks June 30, 1895. Mrs. Cates survives. Also surviving are two sons, Fred of Kingman and Lowell of Yeddo; a brother, William of Kingman; a sister, Emma Straler of Kingman; and a granddaughter. he was preceded in death by three sons. He was a farmer all his life and lived in Fountain County until 1948 when he moved to Cayuga. He was a member of the West Liberty Christian Church and a trustee of Troy Township in Fountain County. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Bodine and Shelby Funeral Home in Covington. Burial will be in the West Liberty Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 4 p.m. Monday.
