Ruth Marie Cates, 71, 820 Commercial St, Covington Indiana died at 9:10 a.m. Saturday May 29, 1999 at Home Hospital, Lafaeytte. Born Jan 7, 1928 in Hillsboro, she was the daughter of Walter and Ethel Smith Shelley. She married Willard Milton Cates Feb 2, 1948. He survives. She had been a resident of Covington since 1962 and a forme resident of Cates. She attended First Baptist Church in Covington. She was a beautician and worked at her own beauty shop for several years. Also surviving are two sons, Ronald (Linda) Cates of Williamsport and Robert (Jane) Cates of Covington, one sister, Genevieve (Jenny) Minick of Veedersburg; one brother, Howard (Misha) Shelley of Tacoma, Wash and six grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, a granddaughter and sister. Services were at 11 a.m. Tuesday June 1, 1999 at the First Baptist Church in Covington with Pastor Joe Davis officiating. Shelby Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Covington – Ruth Marie Cates, 71 of 820 Commercial died at
9:10 a.m. Saturday May 29, 1999 in Home Hospital. Mrs. Cates was a beautician
and had owned her own shop. Born Jan 7, 1928, in Hillsboro, she had lived in
Covington since 1962, moving from Cates. She married Willard M. Cates on Feb 2,
1948 and he survives. Mrs. Cates attended First Baptist Church. Surviving with
her husband are two sons, Ronald Cates or Williamsport and Robert Cats of
Covington; a sister, Genevieve “Jenny” Minick of Veedersburg and a brother,
Howard Shelley of Tacoma, Washington. - kbz
