William Cates, 84, a former Kingman resident, died Friday noon at the Care Nursing Home in Danville, Ill. He had been there 10 days. He was born in Fountain County Dec. 16, 1880, to David and Mary Ferguson Cates. He was a retired farmer and bad lived in Danville the past seven years. He was first married to. Eleanor Yerkes May 17, 1904. She died Oct. 7, 1913. He was married to Leona Grimes Nov. 25, 1915. She died Dec. 9, 1955. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Treca Harding, with whom he made his home the past seven years, and Mrs. Mary Schatz, both of Danville, Ill.; three grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four sisters and three' brothers. Services were at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Woodrow Funeral Home in Kingman with the Rev. Harry Hybarger officiating. Burial was In Snoddy Cemetery northwest of Cates.
