Hoopeston -- John W. Childers, 90 of Hoopeston, died Monday morning (Feb 5, 1973 at the Golden Years Nursing Home in Danville). Born Aug 16, 1882 in Ky, he was the son of Leander & Elizabeth Gilley Childers. He was married in February of 1905 to Dessa O. Alward of Wallace who survives. He attended school in Fountain County, Indiana and was employed by the Chicago & Eastern Illinois RR, retiring in 1946 as agent at Hoopeston. He moved from Hoopeston to a farm near Williamsport Ind after retiring moving back to Hoopeston in 1969. He was a member of the nondenominational church at Hoopeston. Other survivors include a son, BF of Catlin; four grandchildren and 8 greats. He was preceded in death by a twin son in infancy and another son, Leroy in April of 1972. Services will be at 11 a.m. EST Thurs in the Servies-Thomas Funeral Home in Waynetown Ind with Doyle Copeland and William Wilson officiating. Burial in Centennial Cemetery north of Kingman Ind. Visitation will be at the funeral home after 4 p.m. Wednesday.
