William H. Clawson, life-long resident of Rob Roy, passed away at his home Saturday afternoon at 3:00. He had been ill for the past month. He was Fountain County's oldest resident. Mr. Clawson, son of George and Mary Ann Muma Clawson, was born Sept 29, 1863 in Rob Roy, Indiana. He was married to Estelia Armenia Watts Sept 26, 1888 in Muncie, Ill. She preceded him in death Dec 3 1957. He was also preceded in death by three daughters, Arletta Fix, Dorothy and Leona. He is survived by five children, Archie, Arthur and Charles and Maria of Attica and Mrs. Bessie Wilson of Frankfort; 9 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. He was a blacksmith his entire life and was very active until the last six years. He was also an inventor. His daughter, Maria, lived at home and cared for him since the death of his wife in 1957. Sept 29, 1963 he celebrated his 100 birthday at the home of his son, Charles. He was the last member of his family which included 3 brothers and 4 sisters. A life long Democrat, who voted first for Grover Cleveland, received congratulations frm the late President John Kennedy on the occasion of his 100th birthday day. Funeral services were held at the DeSutter Funeral Home Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 with Rev. James Nealeigh officiating. Interment was in the Beulah Cemetery.
William Clawson, lifetime resident of Fountain County, who retired only 4 years ago as a blacksmith, cleebrated his 100th birthday last Sunday Sept 29. "Simple living and hard work," is Clawson's suggestion for a long life. He has always been a lifetime Democrat and last week he received birthday greetings from a fellow party member, Governor Matthew E. Welsh. He also got a huge bouquet from the Fountain County Democratic party. Last Saturday he had a nice talk by US Senator Vance Hartke, who was in the county to tour Big Pine Creek and Coal Creek. Clawson's wife, Estella, died six years ago at the age of 86, and he now resides with a daughter, Miss Maria CLawson, 60, Attica, Rt 4. "My father's health is pretty good, but he was a little bit nervous over the party," Miss Clawson said. The birthday party was held at the home of his son, Charles, in Attica. He has 3 other children, Archie Clawson, 74, the oldest, Arthur both of ATtica and Mrs. James B. Wilson of Frankfort. (picture)

William Clawson of Rob Roy reached 100 Sunday and he has been retired only 4 years as a blacksmith. He worked on his own yard and garden this season. T he lifelong Democrat has received birthday greetings from Gov. Matthew E. Welsh. A birthday party SUnday honored the Fountain County centennarian at the home of a son, Charles in Attica.
