Mellott, Ind. - R. (Rex) Claypool, 81, of Mellott, died at 2 a.m. today (June 29, 1967) at his home. He had been in ill health several years and bedfast the past nine months. He was born Jan. 11, 1886 at Sanborn, S.D., the son of Dr. Robert and Julius Palin Claypool. He moved to Newtown with his parents when he was a small child. He was married Jan. 10, 1907, at Mellott to Lesa Johnson, who survives. He attended Union Christian College at Merom, Ind., and Rose Polytechnic Institute at Terre Haute. He was in the automobile sales and service in Mellott for 25 years. He retired eight years ago because of ill health. He was a member of the Mellott United Church of Christ and taught an adult Sunday school class there. Other survivors include, two sons, Robert and Don, both of Mellott and two grandchildren. The body is at the Crumley-Williams Funeral at Hillsboro where services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday. The Rev. Charles Kraft Jr., will officiate with burial in the Newtown Cemetery. - R. Rex Claypool, 81, retired car dealer, died at 2 a.m. Thursday at his home in Mellott. He had been ill for several years and bedfast for the last nine months. Mr. Claypool owned and operated Claypool's Automobile Sales and Service Co. in Mellott for over 25 years before his retirement due to ill health about eight years ago. He attended Union Christian College at Merom, Ind. and Rose Polytechnic Institute in Terre Haute. A long-time member of the Mellott United Church of Christ, he was the teacher of the adult Sunday school class for several years. He was born the son of Dr. Robert and Julia Palin Claypool in Sanborn, S. D. on Jan. 10, 1886. The family moved to Newtown when Claypool was a small child. He was married to Lisa Johnson in Mellott in the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Johnson, on Jan. 10, 1907. With the exception of eight years in Newtown and two years in Spencer, Ind., their married life was spent in Mellott. Surviving are the widow, two sons, Robert and Don of Mellott, and two grandchildren. Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in the Crumley-Williams Funeral Home in Hillsboro with Rev. Charles Kraft Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Newtown Cemetery. Friends may call after 2 p.m. Friday.

Hillsboro - Funeral services for Rex Claypool were held Saturday at Crumley-Williams Funeral Home with Rev. Charles Kraft of Mellott officiating. "How Great Thou Art" was sung by Mrs. Ruby Helger and Mrs. Marjorie Linville accompanied on the organ. Serving as pallbearers were Walter Seymour, Emory Gardner, Clarence McClure, Kenneth Rayburn, Fern Cooper and Jerry Mortimore. Burial was in Newtown Cemetery.
