Ruth E. Coats, 88 of rural Waynetown died at 9 a.m. Thursday in the Forum at the Crossing Nursing Home in Indianapolis. Mrs. Coats had been a tax preparer and manager of H&R Block Office in Crawfordsville. She was a member of Scotts Prairie and Alamo Christian Church where she belonged to the Ladies Aid Society. She was a former member of Culver Hospital Auxiliary. Mrs. Coats was born Dec 19, 1918 in Covington to William and Edna Smith Price. She was a graduate of Covington HS. She married Homer William "Bill" Coats Dec 21, 1941. He died Nov 16, 1996. Survivors include son David (Nancy) Coats of Indianapolis; daughter Joan (David) Philpott of Noblesville; sister WInifred Stockdale of Winterhaven, Fla; two grandsons and five great grandchildren. A daughter Kathy Coats and a half-brother Rudolph Storm are deceased. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in the Shoemaker Funeral Home in Waynetown with Rev. Danny Meadows officiating. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Waynetown Masonic Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Alamo Christian Church or Montgomery County Red Cross.
