Ira Allen Coffing 81, of Covington Rt 3, died at 7:02 p.m. Tuesday May 22, 1973 at Lake View Memorial Hospital, Danville. He had been a patient 5 days. He was born April 1 1892 in Troy Twp, Fountain County, son of Charles Fletcher and Anna Tharp Coffing. He married 2 Feb 1916 Pearl Zeigler who survives. A life resident of the Salem community he was the first president of the Covington Consolidated School Corporation and was a life member of the Salem United Methodist Church. He had spent the winters in Sarasota, FL since 1945. Other survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Arthur (Genevieve) Keeneth of Sarasota; Mrs. Richard (Dorothy) Chase of Portland, Ore; and Mrs. William (Nina) Cole of Bellingham, Wash; 10 grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters, two brothers and a granddaughter. Services will be 2:30 p.m. Friday at Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home, with the Rev. P.J. Hamilton and Rev. Forest Strickler officiating. Burial in Mt. Hope.

  Ira Allen Coffing died Tuesday, May 22, 1973 at 7:20 p.m. at Lake View Memorial Hospital where he had been a patient five days.
  He was born April 1, 1892 in Troy Township, Fountain County, Indiana to Charles Fletcher Coffing and Anna Tharp Coffing. He married Pearl Zeigler February 22, 1916.
  He was a resident of the Salem community since 1945, spending winters at Sarasota, Florida. He was a lifelong member of Salem United Methodist Church. Mr. Coffing was the first president of Covington Consolidated School Corporation.
  He is survived by his wife, who resides at Rural Route 3, Covington, and his three daughters, Mrs. Arthur (Genevieve) Kenneth of Sarasota, Florida; Mrs. Richard (Dorothy) Chase of Portland, Oregon; Mrs. William (Nina) Cole, Bellingham, Washington; ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
  He was preceded in death by two sisters, two brothers, and one granddaughter.
  The funeral was Friday, May 25, at 2:30 p.m. at the Bodine and Shelby Funeral Home with the Rev. P. J. Hamilton and the Rev. Forrest Stickler officiating. Burial was at Mount Hope Cemetery. ā€“ thanks so very much to ā€œSā€
