Hillsboro - Herschel Coleman, 59, of Hillsboro, died Saturday evening in Veterans Hospital at Indianapolis. He had been in failing health six months. Mr. Coleman attended Mellott High School and was a World War II Army veteran. Wounded in Normandy, he was discharged Oct. 13, 1944, and remained in the Indianapolis Veterans Hospital seven years. He had been confined to his home since 1951. Born April 19, 1912, near Mellott, he was a son of Thomas and Angeline Heater Coleman. He was married Sept. 14, 1946, in Villa Park, Ill., to Alta Wright. Survivors include the widow; two stepsons, David Wright of Valparaiso, and D. Floyd Wright of Portage; a brother, Simon Coleman of Hillsboro; two sisters, Mrs. Roland (Lucille) Harrison of Danville, Ill., and Miss Maxine Coleman of Crawfordsville; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Crumley-Williams Funeral Home at Hillsboro with Rev. Walter C. Williams officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 6 p.m. Monday.
