Attica, Ind. (CNS)—Carter Meharry, 53, of Attica Route 1, a prominent auctioneer in West Central Indiana for over 20 years, died at 7 a.m. yesterday (Jan. 2, 1967) at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Lafayette. He had been a patient there six days. Born Dec. 31, 1914, in Wingate, he was the son of James A. and Jessie Carter Meharry. He was married in 1966 to Pearl Best, who survives. Mr. Meharry was a member of the Jackson Heights Methodist Church, West Point Lions Club and Indiana Auctioneers Association. He was a graduate of the Jackson Heights school system and later attended a diesel training school in Los Angeles, Calif. He and Log Dillon operated the Attica Sale Barn for more than 25 years. Other survivors include five step sons, Laverne of Lafayette, James of Attica, Robert in the Armed Forces, Danny and Francis, both at home; three step daughters, Mrs. LeRoy Harmeson of Attica, Mrs. Larry Hardman of Silver Springs, Md., and Marcella Best of Muncie, and six grandchildren. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Roemer Funeral Home. The Rev. Richard Bowman will officiate. Burial will be in Meharry Cemetery near Wingate. The body is at the funeral home. Friends will be received after 1 p.m. Wednesday.   --typed by Walt W
