COVINGTON, Ind. (CNS)—Clyde Forrest Meharry, 67, a life resident of Covington, died at his home at 5:12 a.m. Sunday (Jan. 7, 1962). He had been ill a year and one-half and seriously ill four months. He operated the first Kroger Store in Covington and operated his own grocery for 26 years before retiring last October. He was born March 11, 1894, in Covington, a son of William and Martha Holycross Meharry. Surviving are his mother, Mrs. Martha Meharry, of Covington; two sisters, Mrs. Ruth Lewsader, of Veedersburg rural route, and Mrs. Ruby Ludlow, of Covington, and a niece, Martha Selby, of Covington. He was preceded in death by his father. He was a member of Covington F&AM 60, Crawfordsville Chapter 40, RAM, Knights of Pythias 36, Maccabees, and Montgomery Council 34, RPSM. The body is at the Hegg Funeral Home where funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday with the Rev. Roscoe Russell officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Clyde Forrest Meharry, age 67, lifetime resident and former business man of Covington, died at 5:12 a. m. Sunday, Jan. 8, at his home at 720 Pearl St. He had been ill the past year and a half and was seriously ill for four months. He was born March 11, 1894 in Covington, the son of William and Martha Holycross Meharry. He began his career in the retail grocery business as a delivery boy. He managed the first Kroger Store in this city and then for 26 years owned and operated his own grocery store, first in the downtown area and then at 717 Eighth St., which he operated as long as his health permitted. Mr. Meharry was a member of Fountain Lodge No. 60, F&AM, Tidal Lodge No. 36, Knights of Pythias and the Maccabees of Covington; the Crawfordsville Chapter No. 40, RAM, and the Montgomery Council No. 34, RNSM. He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Martha Meharry, who made her home with him; two sisters, Mrs. Ruth Lewsader of Veedersburg Rt., and Mrs. Ruby Ludlow, of Covington; one niece, Mrs. Martha Selby of Covington; one grand-niece and one grand-nephew. He was preceded in death by his father April 10, 1914. Funeral services were held at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at the Hegg Funeral Home. The Rev. Roscoe Russell, Louisville, Ky., pastor of the Calvary Chapel there, officiated and burial was in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Masonic rites were conducted at the graveside.
