Helen Christine Meharry, 86 of New Richmond, died at 11:41 a.m. Thursday Sept 7, 1995 in AMI Culver Union Hospital, Crawfordsville. Born Dec 25, 1908 in Otterbein, she graduated from Otterbeing HS and attended Purdue University School of science for 3 years. She married Hugh S. Meharry Jan 11, 1934. He died in March 1986. Mrs. Meharry was a member of Jackson United Methodist Church. She was a more than 60 year member of Jackson Extension Homemakers, Shawnee Missionary Society, Wea Plains Wednesday Club and a more than 50 year member of Pythian Sisters. She was past grand chief of Indiana Grand Temple and Order of Eastern Star past worthy matron. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Edwin (Patricia) McNeil and Ada Dean, both of Lafayette and Mrs. Ronald (Margaret) Horn of Crawfordsville; a brother, Royce O. Whitehead of New RIchmond; a sister, Mable Kiefer at West Point; 8 grandchildren 10 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by 3 brothers. Visitation was Sunday at Cramer-SHoemaker Funeral Home, Waynetown. Services thereon Monday with Rev. Richard Girton Officiating. Interment at Meharry Cemetery, Wingate. Memorials may be made to Pythians Sisters Organization or Jackson United Methodist Church.
