WINGATE — William Gurney Meharry was born March 10, 1884 in Virginia, Cass County, Ill., the son of Ephraim and Laura Knowels Meharry. In 1906 he married Martha Murray. He was seriously ill one week and passed away at 5:30 New Years evening at the State Hospital in Logansport. Mr. Meharry was a member of the old Shawnee Mound Methodist Church, the Minute Men of Mellott, and the Red Men Order. He lived in the Shawnee Mound neighborhood all his life. He loved the simple things of life, and his family the short time he was privileged to know them. Loving music, he was a member at one time of the Odell band. He graduated from Odell High School, attended Valparaiso University, and Fresno, Calif., Business College. He is survived by his only daughter, Mrs. Marguerite Westfall of Logansport; two granddaughters, Mrs. Ruby Jean Rogers of Madison, Mrs. Betty Marie Lasley of Darlington; and one grandson, Robert M. Westfall of Alexandria, Louisiana; and three great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife in 1946. Funeral services were held at 10:30 Tuesday morning at the Servies Funeral Home in Waynetown. The minister was the Rev. Rob R. James of Wingate Methodist Church, with Mrs. Wreatha Oxley playing favorite hymns. Burial was in the Meharry Cemetery north of Wingate. The pallbearers were Lee Meharry, Roy Meharry, Hugh Meharry, Marion Westfall, Virgil Dazey, Ora Oswalt.   --typed by Walt W

Gurney Meharry, 81, died at 5:30 p.m. Saturday. He was born March 10, 1884, in Cass County, Illinois to Ephraim and Laura Knowels Meharry. He was married to Martha Meharry in 1906. He was a member of the Old Shawnee Mound Methodist Church the Minutemen of Mellott, the Redmen Lodge and the Odell band. He was graduated from Odell HS and attended Valparaiso University and the Fresno (Calif) Business College. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Margaret Westfall of Logansport; two granddaughters, Mrs. Ruby Rogers of Madison and Mrs. Betty Lasley of Darlington; a grandson Robert of Alexandria, La and three great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife in 1946. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Servies Funeral Home in Waynetown, Rev. Robb R. James will officiate. Friends may call at the funeral home after 6 p.m. Monday. Burial in Meharry Cemetery north of Wingate.

WINGATE — Funeral services for Gurney Meharry, who died on New Year's Day, were held Tuesday morning at the Servies Funeral Home in Waynetown. The minister was Rev. Rob R. James of the Wingate Methodist Church. The organist, Mrs. Austin Oxley, played favorite old hymns. The pallbearers were Lee Meharry, Roy Meharry, Hugh Meharry, Virgil Dazey, Ora Oswalt and Marion Westfall. Interment was in Meharry Cemetery north of Wingate.   --typed by Walt W
