Newtown, Sept 14 – Mrs. Alice Melby, 22, died at a
Effingham, Ill hospital Saturday evening. Born in Newtown in 1919, she went to
Japan, where her father, Rev. William McKnight, was a missionary. She graduated
from the English HS in Tokyo and after returning to this country, she graduated
from Illinois University last January. She was a member of the Christian
Congregational church. Surviving are the
husband, Glenn Melby; an infant son; her parents, a sister, Esther, brother,
Robert. Funeral services will be held from the Presbyterian Church Eppingham
(sic) Ill at 2 p.m Monday. The body will be taken to Chicago after the services
for cremation.
