Chester William Merrill, 66, of the Portland Arch community on Attica Route 1 and former caretaker at the Harrison hills Country Club died at 3:40 p.m. Tuesday (Oct. 21, 1975) at his residence. He had been hospitalized since July 14 and had returned home on Monday. Death was attributed to a heart attack. Born Oct. 21, 1901 in Hymera, he was the son of John and Minnie Van Hoye Merrill. Feb. 12, 1927, in Robinson, Ill., he married Maggie Ellen Mathews, who died Oct. 25, 1974. Attica, but had been a resident Mr. Merrill formerly resided in of Portland Arch area for past 11 years. He attended school in Aliceville and had been caretaker at Harrison Hills Country Club for several years. He had also been a core finisher at Harrison Steel Casting Co. He was a member of the Christian Church at Portland Arch. Survivors include two sons. William of Attica Route 1 and Raymond of West Lebanon; three sisters Mrs. Betty Page of Indianapolis, Mrs. Mabel Brock Smith of Vincennes and Mrs. Evelyn Pitcher of Bicknell; two brothers Henry Jee Merrill of Vallejo Calf., and Charles Kedrick Merrill of Evansville; nine grandchildren and a great-grandson. Services will be at 2 p. m. Friday at the Dale Maus Funeral Home, with the Rev. Don Green and James Reynolds officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. The family has requested that any memorials be in the form of contributions to the Fountain Christian Church at Portland Arch.   -- jlr
