Mrs. Maggie Ellen Merrill, 67, of the Fountain (Portland Arch) community of Attica Route One, died Friday, Oct. 25, 1974, at the Americana Nursing Home in Danville, Ill., where she was admitted a day earlier. She had been ill since Aug. 30th. Born on Feb. 12, 1907, at Shelburn, she was the daughter of Francis and Mary Ellen Crabbe Mathews. She was married on Feb. 12, 1927, in Robinson, Ill., to Chester Merrill, who survives. He is a former caretaker at Harrison Hills Country Club and also was a core finisher at Harrison Steel, both in Attica. She had been a resident of Fountain the past 11 years and formerly resided in Bicknell and at the Harrison Hills Country Club in Attica for 14 years. She was a member of the Fountain Christian Church and the Ladies Aid. Other survivors include two sons, William of Attica R 1 and Raymond of West Lebanon; and a sister, Mrs. Minnie Brown of Shoals; nine grandchildren and a great grandchild. Services at the Dale Maus Funeral Home, Rev. Don Green and Rev. Jim Reynolds officiating. Burial in Riverside Cemetery. The family requests that memorials be in the form of contributions to the Fountain Christian Church.   -- jlr
