MILLER, Lucy Dell Myers

Source: Kingman Star ? Date (late Dec 1943 or early Jan 1944)

Lucy Dell Miller, daughter of George W. and Mary E. Myers was born in Howard Township, Parke County Indiana on May 30, 1887 and passed away about 12 o'clock Dec 27, 1943, age 56Y6M27D. She received her school education in Howard Township, Bloomingdale Academy and Marshall HS. On April 4, 1913, she was united in marriage with William A. Miller. For a few years she and her husband lived on a farm a few miles SW of HIllsboro, after they moved to the present farm about 5 miles east of Kingman. She was a member of the Wolf Creek Baptist Church and order of Eastern Star, Wallace. Lucy was truly a home woman, always interested in the affairs at home. During her last years of suffering she made a heroic effort to regain her health that she might be of some help to her family and some service to those in need. Abot two years ago her health began to fail very fast. She was treated in a hospital several times and was given the best medical treatment known without much avail. At her home her daughter-in-law and her husband and son have tried to take care of her the best they could. Her daughters living away when at their mother's home tried to care for their mother, too. For the last 8 or 10 weeks she suffered intensely most of the time because she could not keep medicine in her system long enough to control pain. Lucy sincerely believed in this verse of scripture: "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life." She closed her eyes to the joys and sorrows of this world and we believe she opened them at once to an eternal joy in the land beyond the grave. Those who will mourn her passing are the husband, William Allen Miller, Kingman RR; a daughter, Mrs. Jewel Mellert, Ridge Farm Ill; a son, Orville at home; a daughter, Mrs. Dorothy Cunningham, Kingman Rt 1, a brother, Vester Myers, Kingman RR; two aunts, Mrs. Annie Williamson, Indianapolis; and Mrs. Marie Payne, Waveland; and 3 nephews, Versa Keller, Paul Keller and Garcie Keller, a soldier in Australia; 7 granchildren and a host of neighbors and friends. Funeral services were held at Wolf Creek Church by Rev. Cornelius Airhart. Interment at Wolf Creek Cemetery.
