Mary Frances (Tance) Miller, 78, of Covington, formerly of Shoals, died at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 9, 2000 at Provena USMC in Danville, Ill. Born July 4, 1922 in Martin County, she was the daughter of the late James L. and Rosabelle (Neighbor) Brown. Her marriage was to William R. Miller on July 7, 1945 in Vincennes. He preceded her in death in 1997. Surviving, are: one daughter, Becky Roarks of Covington; one son, Steven D. Miller of Delaware, Ohio; one brother, John Brown of Shoals; one sister, Nancy Baker of Shoals; and four grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by a brother, James Brown. Mrs. Miller was a member of the Shoals American Legion Auxiliary, Shoals VFW Auxiliary and Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary. She belonged to S. Mary’s Catholic Church in Shoals, Daughters of the American evolution, where she was past regent; Altar Society of St. Mary’s, Colonial Dames, Shoals Library Board, Women’s Study Club, and Martin County Historical Society, where she was past president. She retired from NWSC Crane. Visitation from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 14 at Queen-Lee Funeral Home, Shoals. Service at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Shoals. Interment in Spring Hill Cemetery, Shoals. – jlr
