A Covington man died Saturday night at 11:05, approximately 24 hours after he was critically injured in a one-car accident on U.S. 136 between here and Danville, Illinois. State police identified the victim as Roy J. Miller, 40, of 102 Ninth St. Officers said he suffered severe head and internal injuries in the crash at 11 p.m. Friday just three-quarter mile east of the Illinois state line. According to troopers, Miller was alone in his car and eastbound on 136 when he apparently tried to go around a curve at too high speed. He lost control, the car left the road, hit a utility pole and broke it off 15 feet above the ground, and then overturned.  --typed by Walt W

COVINGTON, Ind. (CNS) — Roy J. Miller, 40, of 102 Ninth, died at 11:10 p.m. Saturday (June 7, 1969) at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Danville, Ill., where he had been a patient a day. He died from injuries suffered in a one-car wreck on U.S. Highway 136 near the Indiana-Illinois state line Friday. Born July 27, 1928 in St. Louis, Mo., he was the son of Walter and Stella Williams Miller. He married Lydia Belle Keller. A life resident of Covington, he was supervisor at Bohn Aluminum in Danville for the past eight years. He was a member of the Covington Civil Defense and was a World War II veteran. He is survived by the widow, a son, Robert, in the U.S. Navy stationed at Great Lakes, Ill.; his mother, Mrs. Stella Newkirk of Covington; his step-father, Freeman Newkirk of Covington; a brother, Robert of Franklin Park, Ill.; two half-sisters, Mrs. Eva Abernathy of Veedersburg Route 2 and Mrs. Fredia Crowder of Veedersburg; and a half-brother, Harold Newkirk of Covington. Services will be at 2 p.m. EDT Tuesday at the Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home with the Rev. Edgar Allan officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.
