COVINGTON — Samuel William Miller, 73, died at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 15, 2002 in The Waters of Covington. He had been seriously ill the past year. He was born Aug. 29, 1928 in Armstrong, Ill., the son of Joseph L. and Viola M. Barnett Miller. He married Charlotte M. Clawson Aug. 5, 1950 in Covington. She survives. He had been a resident of Covington since 1943 and a 1947 graduate of Covington High School. He was an employee 40 years at Hyster later Naaco in Danville, Ill. He was employed as a steward at Portland Arch for 25 years by the Department of Natural Resources. He was a member of Five Points Crossing Park Board, Covington United Methodist Church, Fountain Lodge #60 F. & A.M., Nature Conservancy, Vermilion County, Ill. and National Aubudon Societies. He was a 4-H Leader for many years. Survivors, besides the wife, include: four children, Judith (Richard) Purgason, Yorkville, Ill., Karen (Tom) Boyd, Duluth, Ga., William K. (Connie) Miller, Sealy, Texas and Jane (Steve) Hunter, Cicero; a sister, Marjorie Keenlance, Fond du Lac, Wis., a brother, J. Robert Miller, Clermont; nine grandchildren, Ryan and Adam Purgason, Kelly and Nicole Miller, Sarah and Jacob Boyd, and Kathryn, Jennifer and Elizabeth Charlotte Hunter. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, John and a sister, Ruth. Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Saturday in Shelby Funeral Home, Covington, with Vincent Grogg officiating. Burial was in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Covington. Memorial to Hope Lodge, 1795 W. 86th St., Indianapolis, Ind. 46260 with envelopes available at the funeral home. – jlr
