Newtown—Beulah A. Mitchell, 96, Newtown, died at 5:40 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 7, 1989 in Woodland Manor Nursing Center, Attica. She had been a patient there since Oct. 4, 1981.
  She was born Feb. 29, 1892 in Melrose, Ill., the daughter of Byron and Idella Hastings, She lived most of her life in Newtown. She was married April 15, 1911 in Newtown to Leslie K. Mitchell, who died Jan. 28, 1970.
  She was a 1910 graduate of Newtown High School. She was a member of Newtown Baptist Church, a past matron and more than 50-year member of Newtown Order of Eastern Star Chapter 282, serving as chapter secretary for 25 years.
  She was a member of Fountain County Past Matrons and Past Patrons Queen Esther Club, was past district 16 deputy of Order of Eastern Star in 1943 and Grand Electra of the Order of Eastern Star in 1946.
  She was also a member of Pythian Sisters and a charter member of both the Quigle-Palin American Legion Auxiliary in Newtown and LaChorale Music Club. She organized Newtown Study Club and Fountain County Chorus of Home Economics Clubs, was a charter member and former president of Fountain County Home extension Club. She made and dressed dolls for Knightstown Children’s Home.
  Before entering the nursing home she made tray favors for the veterans’ homes.
  Surviving are two sons, William D., Route 1, Wingate, and Daniel, Newtown; eight grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren and 10 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Donald, two sisters, a half brother and a half sister.
  Order of Eastern Star memorial service was at 10 a.m. Thursday at Maus Funeral Home, Attica, followed by funeral service there with the Rev. Douglas McCord officiating. Burial was in Newtown Cemetery.
