ATTICA — Richard L. Morlan, 64, 512 E. Pike St., Attica, died at 2 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 3, 2000 from a heart attack while weekending at Summers Campground in rural Attica. He was born Aug. 3, 1936 in Warren County, the son, of Harrell E. “Duke” Morlan, Sr. and Ellen Catherine (Van Pelt) Morlan Hinton. He first married Beverly Darding, who preceded in death. He married Patricia Randles Askren Aug. 18, 1984 in rural Veedersburg. She survives. He worked at Harrison Steel Castings Company in Attica for 30 years, retiring as a supervisor Feb. 29, 2000. He was a former member of Attica Eagles Lodge and the Moose Lodge of Hoopeston. He enjoyed pitching horseshoes, listening to bluegrass music, mushrooming, and camping. He was an avid Illinois basketball fan and loved his grandchildren. Survivors, besides the wife, include: a son, Rick (Amy) Morlan, Attica; a daughter, Connie (Bill) Sloan, Point Pleasant, Pa.; his father, Harrell E. “Duke" (Martha) Morlan, Sr., Hoopeston, Ill.; four step daughters, Vickie (Frank) Jordan, Attica; Valerie (Dave) Gray, Pine Village, Terri (Dave) Talbott, Attica and Tracy (Mike) Odle, Pine Village; three step sons, Bill (Cindy) Askren, Larry (Beth) Askren and Bob (Beth) Askren, all of Attica; a brother Dave Morlan, Hoopeston, Ill.; a sister, Carol (Don) Springgate, West Lafayette; 17 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his mother, a brother, Harrell Morlan, Jr. and two sisters, Juanita Lake and Kathy Hislope. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Maus Funeral Home, Attica, with the Rev. Todd Randles officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Attica. Friends may call at the funeral home from 5-9 p.m. tonight (Wednesday. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association. – jlr
