NEWTOWN -- Mrs. Retha Palin, 79, who resided two miles west of here, died at 7:30 a.m. Sunday in the home of her daughter, Mrs. Howard Kimbrell of Rt. 3, Veedersburg. She had been in ill health since 1950. She was a member of Union Christian Church and had been a member of the Bridge Club 45 years. Born June 8, 1894, near Newtown, she was a daughter of Edward G. and Elizabeth Quigle Haverstick. She married Holland V. Palin on Aug. 5, 1914. He died on March 17, 1950. Surviving are the daughter, Mrs. Crystal Kimbrell; two sisters, Mrs. Stanford (Ruth) Grimes of Attica and Mrs. Zone (Lyda) Helms of Rt. 4, Veedersburg; three grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. A daughter, Mrs. Vera Gookins, died in 1967. Services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in Dale Maus Funeral Home at Attica with the Rev. Donald Watson officiating. Burial will be in Union Christian Cemetery west of here. Calling at the funeral home will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday. Source: The obituary is from a collection of newspaper obituaries by Fauniel Hershberger, saved the 1950's, 60's, 70's and 80's. She was a life long resident of Fountain County Indiana.  The collection is now housed at Crawfordsville District Public Library.

Mrs. Palin had been ill since 1950. Born June 8, 1894, near Newtown, she was the daughter of Edward G. and Elizabeth Quiggle Haverstick. She was married on Aug. 5, 1914 to Holland Palin, who died March 7, 1950. A life resident of the Newtown area, she was a member of the Union Christian Church west of Newtown and was a member of the bridge club for 45 years. Other survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Stanford (Ruth) Grimes of Attica and Mrs. Zone (Lyda) Helms of Veedersburg Route 4; three grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Mrs. Vera Gookins, on Sept. 15, 1967. Services will be at 2:30 p.m. EST Wednesday at the Dale Maus Funeral Home in Attica, with the Rev. Donald Watson officiating. Burial will be in Union Christian Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 5-9 p.m. Tuesday.
