Source: The obituary is from a collection of newspaper (paper names not recorded) obituaries saved, by Fauniel Hershberger, during the 1950's, 60's, 70's and 80's. She was a life long resident of Fountain County Indiana.  The collection is now housed at Crawfordsville District Public Library.

Fred Leroy Phebus, age 75, a life resident of Covington, died at 2:45 p. m. Sunday, Aug. 19, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Danville. He had been a patient several days. Mr. Phebus was a clerk and bus-boy at the Tremont Hotel here for many years. He was born Jan. 5, 1887 in Indiana to George K. and Anna Colbert Phebus. He married Frances Ward in 1918 and she died in 1954. Surviving are a son, Elwood of Hamilton, Ohio; a sister, Mrs. Ruby Webster of South Bend; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four brothers. Funeral services were held at 4 p. m. Tuesday at the Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home. The Rev. Edgar Allen officiated and burial was in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Guy Faust, Fred Walter, Clarence Wait, Joe Barkley, George Port, and Ed Crawford.   --typed by Walt W
