PHELPS, Doris Heine - Fountain County INGenWeb Project

NEWTOWN – Doris Phelps, 66, wife of the Rev. George Phelps, former pastor of the Hopewell Baptist Church here, died at 9:45 p.m. Thursday in Hoopeston (Ill.) Community Memorial Hospital. Phelps is pastor the First Baptist Church of Hoopeston. Mrs. Phelps was a member of the first Baptist Church. She was born in Chicago on July 15, 1909, a daughter of Frederick Charles and Emma Louise Hertig Heine. She married George Phelps on Dec. 19, 1936 in Chicago. Surviving are her husband; a son, Frederick of New Market; a daughter, Mrs. Edward (Marion) Townsend of Austin, Tex.; and two grandchildren. Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in the First Baptist Church of Hoopeston with the Revs. Jack Wagoner and Joe Fortna officiating. Burial will be in Newtown Cemetery. Friends may call 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Saturday at the Hamilton-Orr Funeral Home in Hoopeston.  – jlr
