DANVILLE, Ill. — Betty L. Ponder, 74, Danville, Ill., died at 9:35 p.m. Tuesday, March 9, 1999 in Provena USMC Logan Campus, Danville, Ill. Born Feb. 8, 1925 in Attica, she was the daughter of Mahlon and Pearl Wilson Hancock. She married John D. Ponder Nov. 4, 1942 in Covington. He preceded her in death Oct. 9, 1963. She later married Jack Sharlow Aug. 2, 1977 in Veedersburg, who survives. She was a former resident of Covington and Veedersburg. She had resided in Danville for the past five months. She attended the First Assembly of God Church in Covington. She had been employed at Covington Manufacturing, Bohn Aluminum, General Electric and Harrison Steel. She was a member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary. Survivors include: sisters, Thelma Freeman and Jennie Hancock, both of Attica; brother, James Hancock, Covington; aunts, Cora Cruea, Covington, Vina Rennick, Crawfordsville; and several nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her parents. Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Friday at Shelby Funeral Home, Covington, with Pastor Donald Stevens officiating. Burial was in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Covington. – jlr
