Veedersburg – Mildred A. Ponder, 1013 Liberty St, Veedersburg, died at 3:45 a.m. Nov 2, 1996 in Covington Manor Health Care, Covington.  She was born May 4, 1917 in Fountain County. The daughter of William and China Kilby Nicklas.  She married William Robert Ponder Oct 18, 1937.  He preceded her in death May 20, 1982.  She was a 1935 graduate of Covington HS. She was a resident of the Veedersburg area most of her life.  She was formerly employed for four years at RMC in Attica and 16 years as cook at Veedersburg and Fountain Central schools.  She spent winters at Zephrhills, Fla from 1982-1991.  She was a member of the Sterling Christian Church and the Hub Club Senior Citizens.  Surviving are a son, Dallas (Cindy) Ponder, Veedersburg; a daughter, Donna (Michael) Cunningham, Veedersburg; a brother, Lewis (Lois) Nicklas, Covington, 9 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and a great, great granddaughter. She was also preceded in death by her parents, a brother Ernst Nicklas and a granddaughter.  Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday at Shelby Funeral Home, Covington and Gary Johnson officiating.  Burial was in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Covington. The family requests that memorials be made to Sterling Christian Church.
