VEEDERSBURG, Ind. (CNS) – Earl “Red” Potter, 53, of Veedersburg Route 4 died at 9:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 16, 1975 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Lafayette. The son of Henry and Nellie Kates Potter, he was born May 27, 1922 in Hillsdale. He married Marlee Haines Oct. 30, 1955. Other survivors include a son, Bill at home; a daughter, Beth at home; his parents of Veedersburg; a sister, Mrs. William (Irene) Keen of Veedersburg; and several neices and nephews. He served with the Army Air Corps in World War II, serving missions in Japan and the eastern mandate of the Western Pacific Theater. He was awarded the Asiatic-Pacific Theater ribbon, with three bronze stars, the Air Medal with two oak leaf clusters, and the distinguished flying cross. He owned and operated Red’s Bar in Veedersburg for 25 years. He is a member of Yeddo Masonic Lodge 636 F & AM, Terre Haute Consistory, Zorah Temple of Terre Haute, Eastern Illinois Shrine Club, Western Indiana Shrine Club, American Legion Post 288 of Veedersburg, Veterans of Foreign Wars in Covington, Indiana Tavern Owners Association, Wallace Low 12 Club, Parke County Low 12 Club, a charter and life member of the 11th bombardment group. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Parham Funeral Home, with the Rev. Harry Hybarger officiating. Burial will be in Rockfield Cemetery, with military graveside rites. Friends will be received at the funeral home from 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. today. The family requests that memorials be in the form of contributiosns to the American Cancer Society or the Shriners’ Crippled Children’s Hospital.  -– jlr
