Once again death has entered our community, taking across the threshold of time into eternity one of our beloved pioneer citizens, Mrs. Clara Ellen Price.

Mrs. Price, daughter of Joseph and Amanda Terry, was born in Parke County, March 30, 1862, and died July 14, 1947, at the home of her eldest son, Arthur, at the age of 85 years, three months and 18 days. She was married to Dr. Wm S. Price, September 5, 1878, and they spent over 56 years of life together, coming to Tangier 57 years ago, rearing their family of three sons. These were busy, happy, useful years, educating the children, attending church and Sunday School, and the various organizations, business and social affairs of the town. The Price home was one of hospitality. Mrs. Price was of a cheerful charitable disposition and was ever a friend to the lowly and unfortunate to whom she gave sympathy, kindness and aid. She was a member of the Friends Church, holding different offices in the same. A Sunday School teacher for years and many a child’s heart was gladdened at Christmas time by extra gifts or treats from her private funds. She was a charter member of the Lodge of Ben Hur, also Erwin Relief Corps, and when it ceased to be, she became a member of the Rockville Corps. Also she served as chaplain of the Grand Army Post in Rockville for years. She was a member of the Welfare League and the Ladies Aid. To all of these she was helpful and generous.

After the death of her husband in 1934, she maintained her home for several years. As her health began failing, she moved to the home of her son, Arthur, in May, 1943, where she had devoted care and attention from him and his wife, Geneva, especially during her last long illness, which she bore with great patience and no complaint.

Mrs. Price was a loving mother and proud of her children and grandchildren.
Mrs. Price is survived by three sons, Arthur, of Tangier, Ben of Kingman and John of Indianapolis; six grandchildren, Wilma Price, of Rockville, Mrs. Phyllis Atkinson, Lucile Price and Mrs. Marjory Jones, all of Danville, Illinois, John Paul Price Jr. and William David Price, of Indianapolis; two small great grandchildren, Jeffrey and Richard Jones and other relatives with many many friends.     A Christian woman has gone to her Heavenly Home. We have lost our friend, but our loss is her eternal gain. – thanks so very much to S&E for all their wonderful obituary work
