WILLIAMSPORT — Anna May (Shonkwiler) Purple, 63, 110 Tami Lane, Williamsport, died at 9:25 a.m. Friday, Feb. 4, 2000 in St. Vincent Williamsport Hospital. She had been in failing health for the past two years. She was born Sept. 2, 1936 in Attica, the daughter of Russell Glen and Elsie Crowder Shonkwiler. She married John E. Puple Sept. 11, 1954 in Williamsport, who survives. She was raised in Attica and had lived in Williamsport for the past 30 years. She attended Attica High School. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the V.F.W. Post #3318 of Attica. She was a former member of the Women of the Moose. She enjoyed playing cards and watching basketball. Survivors, besides the husband, include: two daughters, Theresa McClure and Merridi (Jeff) Dark, both of Williamsport; a son, Ronnie (Vicki) Purple, Williamsport; three brothers, Russell Shonkwiler, Jr. and Billie Shonkwiler, both of Attica, John Myers, King George, Va.; five grandchildren; and a great-grandson. She was preceded in death by a son, Nelson Purple; a grandson, Christopher Waldron; two brothers, Richard and John "Jack" Shonkwiler; and a sister, Doris Cooper. Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Monday in Maus Funeral Home, Attica. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery, Attica. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association. – jlr
