COVINGTON -- Dorthy Ellen Purple, 48, of 322 Fifth St., Covington, died at 2 p.m. Friday in St. Elizabeth Hospital at Danville, Ill. She had been a patient two days. She worked in the office of Covington IGA Family Center and attended Covington United Methodist Church. Born June 6, 1928, she was a daughter of William D. and Cora M. DeWeese Horton of Melvin, Ill. She married Charles E. Purple on April 8, 1961, at State Line. Survivors are her parents; her husband, five daughters, Mrs. Cheryl Owens Pentecost of Danville, Ill., Mrs. Patricia Murphy Pitlick of Evansville, Mrs. Mary Murphy Wilson of Valparaiso and Shelly Murphy and Sandy Purple, both at home; and three brothers, Earl Horton of Brookston; Don Horton of Rankin, Ill., and Gale Horton of Veedersburg. She was preceded in death by a daughter. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in DeVerter Funeral Home at Covington with the Rev. Edgar Allen officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home 2-6 and 7-9 Sunday. The family requests contributions be made to the heart fund. -- kbz

COVINGTON, Ind. (CNS) – Mrs. Dorthy Ellen Purple, 48, of 422 Fifth St., died at 1 p.m. Friday (Nov. 12, 1976) at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Danville, Ill., where she had been a patient two days. Mrs. Purple was an office worker at the Covington IGA Family Center. She attended the Covington United Methodist Church. Her hobbies were sewing, reading, and raising plants. Born June 6, 1928 in Melvin, Ill., she was a daughter of William D. and Cora M. DeWeese Horton. She married Charles E. Purple on April 8, 1961 near State Line. He survives. Also surviving are her parents; five daughters, Cheryl Owens Pentecost of Danville, Ill., Patricia Murphy Pitlik of Evansville, Mary Murphy Wilson of Valparaiso, and Shelly Murphy and Sandy Purple, both at home; and three brothers, Earl of Brookston, Don of Rankin, Ill., and Gale of Veedersburg. A daughter preceded her in death. Services will be at 2 p.m. (EST) Monday at the DeVerter Funeral Home in Covington with the Rev. Edgar Allen officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery in Covington. Visitation will be from 2-9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, where the family will receive friends from 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. The family has asked that any memorials be in the form of contributions to the Heart Fund.  – jlr
