ATTICA, Ind. (CNS) -- Joseph Jackson Rice, 91, former mayor of Attica died Sunday (July 27, 1958) in Williamsport Community Hospital following an illness of two weeks. He was born Dec. 17, 1866, in Fountain County, son of Jacob and Elizabeth Ann Round Rice, and was married in February, 1916, to Margaret Wright who survives. Also surviving are a son, Carl of Attica; a grandson, and three great-grandchildren. A son, Cecil, preceded him in death in 1950. Mr. Rice served nine years as mayor of Attica. He also served two terms in the state legislature, was postmaster at Kramer, Ind., four years and was a trustee of Liberty Township in Warren County. He was a former Democratic county chairman, and operated an auto agency in Attica 42 years. Mr. Rice was a 50-year member of Wabash Lodge 708, F&AM, and a 50-year member of the Scottish Rite, Valley of Indianapolis. The body is at the Ferguson Funeral Home in Attica where services will be at 2 p. m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery at Williamsport. Friends will be received after 8 p. m.
