ROYAL, Halbert Walter

Newtown—Halbert Walter Royal, 51, died suddenly from a heart attack suffered while he was at work at the bench in his harness repair shop here at 9:00 Saturday morning.  Mrs. Royal, with him in the shop at the time, caught her husband as he seemed to faint and prevented him from falling to the floor. Mr. Royal had been in declining health for several years. He died from a coronary occlusion. Born near Newtown Aug. 16, 1897, Mr. Royal was the son of Walter and Verna Meeker Royal. He was married March 4, 1922 to Kate Irene Dinwiddie of Newtown.  The widow survives, together with one son, Robert Royal of Newtown. Mrs. Royal is the Newtown correspondent for the Ledger-Tribune. Also surviving are three sisters, Mrs. Wretha Kerr of Newtown, Mrs. Hazel Guy of Attica, and Mrs. Leah Middleton of Chicago and one brother, Carl Royal of Cleveland, Ohio. Mr. Royal was a graduate of the Newtown High School. He was engaged in farming for a period before he entered the harness repair business and conducted his own shop in Newtown.  A veteran of World War I, Mr. Royal served overseas with the American forces. He was a past chancellor commander of Hatfield Lodge of the Knights of Pythias and also a post commander of the Quigle-Palin Post No. 394 of the American Legion. He held membership in Union Christian Church. Funeral services were held at the Newtown Methodist Church Monday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. Burial was at Newtown. Rev. E. F. Prevo of Waveland, former pastor here, was in charge of the services. - S&E

Newtown, Sept 25 - Halbert Walter Royal, 49, died Saturday at 9 a.m. at the Royal Harness and Repair shop, which he operated after having been in ill health six months. Born near here, he was a lifelong resident of this community. He was a WWI veteran a member of Union Christian Church, past commander of Quigle & Palin American Legion Post 394 and past chancellor commander of Hetfield K of P. He was married March 4, 1922 to Kate Irene Dinwiddie. Surviving are the widow; a son, Robert of Crawfordsville; three sisters, Mrs. Wretha Kerr, Newtown; Mrs. Hazel Guy, Attica and Mrs. Leah Middleton, Chicago and a brother, Carl Royal of Cleveland.

Crawfordsville, Ind Sept 25 - Halbert W. Royal, 51 years old, Newtown business man and civic leader died today of heart seizure while at work in his harness stop at Newtown, northwest of here. An overseas veteran of WWI and former commander of the Quigle-Palin post of the American Legion in Newtown, Royal had been active in veterans' affairs since completing Army service. Royal was a member of the Christian Church and a past chancellor of Knights of Pythias. Surviving are the widow; one son, Robert Royal, Newtown; a brother and three sisters. Funeral arrangements are incomplete.
