SLAVENS, Elva Rice

Mrs. Elva Slavens, 62, wife of Hiram Slaves who resided on a farm southeast of Hillsboro died at Culver Hospital at 8:45 o'clock Saturday morning after suffering a stroke of apoplexy while in Crawfordsville the previous day.

Mrs. Slavens was the daughter of the late Isaac and Florence Rice and was born March 19, 1882. The Rice family resided in the vicinity of Newtown for a number of years and then moved to Browns Valley. She was married to Hiram Slaves who with one son, Ivan Slavens of the US Army survive. Two sisters, also survive, Mrs. Mabel Wiatt of Waveland and Miss Claral Rice of Crawfordsville.

The body was removed to the Grenard & Servies Funeral Home in Waynetown and funeral services were held at 2:30 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at the Browns Valley Baptist Church with Rev. John Caldwell in charge. Burial was in the Freedom cemetery.   --- transcribed by kbz
