Services for Donald V. Smith, 82 of 3602 S. Ironwood Drive, formerly of Elkhart who died at 9:50 p.m. Saturday at St. Joseph’[s Medical Center after an illness, will be at 10:30 a.. Wednesday at Walley-Mills-Zimmerman Funeral Home, Elkhart.  Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola. Friends may call from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday and until services Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Simpson United Methodist Church, Elkhart of which he was a member. Mr. Smith was born Sept 16, 1903 in Attica, Ind. He had lived in the South Bend are for the past six years after coming from Ekhart, where he had lived for many years. On Nov 29, 1934 in Marion, Ind, he married Nellie Shugart. She survives along with two sons Duane V of Pryor, Okla and Merrill L. of Ardmore Okla; four grandchildren; a sister, Florence L. Smith of Covington, Ind and a half sister Iva Liddel of Brazil, Ind.  From 1943-44, Mr. Smith was a principal in the Middlebury School System. In 1971, he retired from the Elkhart Community School System, where he had been a teacher for 28 years. Upon retirement, he was a 6th grade teacher at Hawthorne School in Elkhart.  He was a graduate of the former Indiana Central College at Indianapolis, now Indianapolis University and Indiana State University, Terre Haute. He was a member of the Joy group of the church and local, state and national teacher’s associations. - kbz
